Mastheads for The Sheaf

The Sheaf began publishing in November 1912 as a monthly magazine-format periodical which focussed on serious political and social issues. The only references to campus events came each year in the April "Graduation Number", which was given over to a yearbook-like summary of the students, athletics, colleges and events of the previous year. On 27 October 1920 The Sheaf changed format and began publishing as a weekly newspaper, at which point it quickly became the definitive forum for University events, athletics and campus life.

It was not until the 1932-33 year that the paper evolved from a basic bulletin board of campus activities to the outspoken purveyor of student and editorial opinion, sometimes to the chagrin of Sheaf editor and University President alike.
