On 21 October 1967 people around the
world demonstrated against the war in Vietnam. At the U of S an Ad Hoc
October 21 Committee organized a week of activities ending in a march
on city hall. These activities included a showing of the Bertrand Russell
Peace Foundation film “Threatening Sky,” a speech by Prof.
J Warnock on “Canada’s Role in Vietnam,” and a debate
on the resolution that “Canada immediately cease shipment of all
war material to the U.S. for use in Vietnam.” On Friday Bob Wilkinson,
a Vietnam veteran, spoke on “Why I came back opposed."

In 1971, 4500 students marched against underground testing
of nuclear devices in Amchitka (part of the Aleutians islands in Alaska)
by the U.S. government.
