Members of the Debating Directorate in action. The Debating Directorate began life in January 1912 as the Debating Club before it became a part of the SRC. The aims of the Club were to develop the debating powers of all its members and to cultivate the essentials of public address. All sessions of the organization were conducted as mock parliaments. Hill Agencies Ltd. donated the Hill Cup in 1913 as an award for inter-faculty competition. By the 1930s the competition was against other western universities, for the McGoun Cup.
