The Varsity Band was a 16-piece group which played big band music. While mainly a hobby band, it also performed at various varsity dances and concerts. The group was formed in 1954-55 by Jim Friesen and Bobs Caldwell and was sponsored by the SRC. Caldwell is notable for his creation of another musical group on campus, the Intensely Vigorous College Nine.
