Horses played a more important role in the First World War than in the second; the cavalry was
outmoded and transportation was vehicle drawn. The hand and ground weapons improved over
time and grew both in size and versatility. World War II also witnessed the introduction of
airplanes which could fly higher, faster, and farther and could carry more and better armaments.
Society was well on the road to developing and deploying new weapons of mass destruction.
