Ed Partridge was sent to Winnipeg by a group of his Sintaluta, SK neighbours. His task was to investigate the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, where he deduced that the system was one of price-fixing and collusion. He began promoting the idea of a producer-run marketing organization which, in 1906, was created and called the Grain Growers’ Grain Company. In spite of being its first president, Partridge proved too uncompromising to last on the board of the Grain Company. His contribution to the organization is nonetheless undisputed.
