Historical Note: The
NWMP depot was not just the headquarters of the force in the west,
it was a training depot for new NWMP cadets. The first influx of
new cadets for training came in 1885, on the eve of the North-West
Rebellion, when cadet numbers were doubled by Parliament to 1,000.
Ultimately, the NWMP in Regina would not see much action in the
North West Rebellion - most
of that responsibility fell on the militia - but the population
of Regina would never be the same. Regina became a town with a
large population of armed NWMP, and local merchants reaped the
benefits.
