Historical Note: The North West Mounted Police
had been headquartered in Fort Walsh since their early days in
the North West Territories . Once the CPR line went through Regina – and
once Lieutenant-Governor Dewdney decided to relocate the capital
there – the decision was made to move the NWMP headquarters as
well. So in 1882 the force moved to Regina , and in 1883 the force's
numbers went from 300 to 500 in an effort to meet their new commitments
to policing the Last Best West. |
