Historical Note: The Regina Flying Club was founded in 1927. That same year, 160 acres of land was purchased to the west of the city. It was time to build a modern airport in Regina . The City of Regina took over the Flying Club in 1928 and built a hangar and gasoline storage tanks on the land. There were already several airfields in the city – one was located on the corner of Hill Avenue and Cameron Street (the first licensed aerodrome in Canada) and one was located on the site of the present-day Golden Mile Mall. By 1929 these airports were closed, and all air traffic moved to the site that had been purchased by the Regina Flying Club in 1927. This is the same location where the Regina International Airport stands today.
