Historical Note: The City of Regina had attempted to
get the new Legislative Buildings constructed on land in the centre of
the city – they offered Victoria Park to the province for the purpose
– but the provincial government chose a tract of land owned by the
McCallum Hill group as the site for the new buildings. That decision proved
to be a fortuitous one. The land along Wascana Creek became the site of
a new green space for the city known as Wascana Park. The area around
the Legislative Buildings was landscaped by Frederick W. Todd, who also
landscaped Victoria Park. Wascana Park, which was originally located on
the edge of the city, soon became a prime drawing card for residential
construction in new areas such as Lakeview and the Crescents.
