Historical Note: This was part of the winning design
submitted by the team of Edward & W.S. Maxwell for the Saskatchewan
Legislative Building. Edward & W.S. Maxwell were Montreal-based brothers
whose design was chosen from among the designs submitted by six internationally
prominent architects. The cornerstone for the building based on the Maxwells’
design was laid by Governor General Earl Grey in 1909. The building opened
on October 12, 1912.
