Historical Note: The land for St. Matthew's Anglican Church was donated by George Broder in memory of his daughter. Broder was one of Regina 's original settlers. The church itself came into being when east-side denizens formed a Sunday school in 1907, but it did not have permanent quarters until construction was completed on the new church building in 1926. The church was initially known as Grace Church, in honour of Broder's daughter, but when the building was opened the name of the congregation was changed to St. Matthew's. There is a Grace Broder Memorial Chapel, however, which was furnished by Grace Broder's three sisters.
