Historical Note: The On-To-Ottawa Trekkers who were arrested on July 1, 1935 are depicted in this composite photograph. Prime Minister Mackenzie King, who was elected in 1936, had a far gentler approach to welfare relief than R.B. Bennett had displayed. Bennett's approach had involved sending in the RCMP to deal with disgruntled camp workers, whereas King disbanded the camps shortly after taking office.
