When the Carmelite nun, St. Theresa of Lisieux, was canonized in Rome, May 17, 1925, the first pilgrimage to her shrine at Wakaw was organized by the newly-ordained pastor Father Narcisse Burrell. Three thousand pilgrims came to Wakaw for the event. [273]
