When the West was first settled, in main parts of Saskatchewan there was a family on every quarter-section. Big families and everyone worked, clearing land, picking stones, harrowing, stoking and threshing.
In the prairie region, density reached a peak of 4.8 persons per square mile in 1931,
and in the parkland region, 6.3. By 1951, this would drop to 2.9 persons.
