Yokohama8 - The coffee
firm Arbuckle Bros. of New York issued this trade card in 1891.
The lithograph shows what they appear to have regarded as typical
Japanese scenes. Interesting is the picture of the Hotel Gan
Kiro. In reality, the Gankiro was a widely known house of prostitution
which had been established by the Japanese government for Westerners
in 1859, at the time of opening of Yokohama. |
