This exhibit highlights over 100 photographs used by Dr. F.H. Edmunds as teaching aids following his 1929 appointment as the University of Saskatchewan's first professor of Geology. Most of the images date from 1904-1923 and illustrate a variety of geological formations.

Historical note:
Frederic Harrison Edmunds was born in Hawarden, North Wales in 1898. He received his B.Sc. (1922) and MSc. (1923) from the University of Liverpool. In 1925 he came to Canada and joined the Department of Soils at the University of Saskatchewan. Professor Edmunds was named chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences in 1961, a position he held until his death in February, 1965.

Scope and content note:
This fonds contains personal and research files on various topics, including a study of the Clwydian Range in North Wales, petrology, mineralogy, soil composition, oil and gas, sodium sulphate and soil mapping. In addition, there are a considerable number of area studies for Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and specifically the Lloydminister area, as well as 75 research reports done for private companies. There are also articles on poetry and the theatre - two of Professor Edmunds' personal interests.
