Yokohama5 - Yokohama Park is close to Kannai Station. During the early years of foreign settlement, the ground occupied by the park was reclaimed from swampy land and rice paddies (the area was known as the "Swamp") and the Kosaki licensed quarter was located there. This part of the city was destroyed by the great fire of 1866. Plans for reconstruction of the city were drawn by Richard Henry Brunton in 1871 and included plans for a park eventually completed in 1876. It was first known as Higa Koen (Theirs and Ours Park) because it was open to both Westerners and Japanese. Later know as Yokohama Park, it was the second of the city's western style parks.
